Grand Canyon Tour - Jebel Shams

Grand Canyon Tour - Jebel Shams

Day 1 : Muscat – Jabal Shams

Your guide will lead you onto the charming ancient village of Misfat Al Arbiyin, former settlements of the interior Imams and their tribes. The village is set in a stunning landscape above terraced plantations of date palms. The ancient houses and ruined watchtower perched on the mountain complete the scene. Later drive to Al Hamra and head up to Jabal Shams, ‘Sun Mountain’, Oman’s highest peak at a staggering 3000 metres. At the upper reaches of the mountain is the ‘Grand Canyon’, which provides breathtaking views down to its floor. Feel the cooler climate change on top of the Canyon. Be prepared for a little ‘summit shopping’ as the village children regularly set up stalls of various homemade handicrafts such as rugs, slippers and key rings made from local mountain goat wool. Your overnight accommodation is at a mountain camp retreat set amongst the stunning landscape of this dramatic mountain. Overnight at the camp.

Day 2 : Wadi Bani Awf – Nakhl - Muscat

Morning board the 4WD and drive through the mountain route to Wadi Bani Awf, a beautiful Wadi in the middle of steep mountain walls. Short walk through the Wadi to enjoy the ambience. You will also pass through the mountainous villages of Hat and Bilat Sait and stop for photo sessions at each place. Later, you reach Nakhal which has a 350 years old magnificent fort and is dramatically located at the top of a rocky mountain cliff. The area is surrounded by date plantations. The narrow road through the town winds up to the Hot Springs, which is a popular picnic spot. After spending some time at Nakhl we drive back to Muscat.
